Schuh in Winestore

Yesterday austrian writer, critic Franz Schuh (*1947, Vienna) was reading excerpts of his new book "Memoiren - Ein Interview gegen mich selbst"("Memoirs- An interview against myself"). The reading, excellently recited, took place in a winestore in Gmunden, Upper Austria, a great surrounding for an event like this.

Behaviourism

In the country of P.P.Queen there are many traditions, above all catholic traditions. Sometimes a strange man in a spacy suit comes to one of these traditional events and changes them, make them somehow different, modern. P.P.´s biggest wish is to get to know this radical artist one day.

Wieslaw Jarmulowicz

Islands, Photography by Wieslaw Jarmulowicz

It was really hard for P.P.Queen to choose from the extensive work of Wieslaw Jarmulowicz, an artist in Krakow, Poland. "I started to paint at the age of 35 because of a Great Jungian Dream in which I drew my paintings and sculptures out of a black-red water-lava lake under the surface of the earth."
School: German Philology at Jagiellonian University in Cracow, Painting at Fine Arts Academy in Cracow.

Nice day

Yesterday P.P.Queen took a walk in her capital city, when she walked through the Volksprater, she thought:"I may need some bracer for my mind before I visit the Secession, because I will be confronted with some hard stuff."

After a good Czech drink and a Erdäpfelpuffer P.P. went to see the Thomas Hirschhorn room collage. The queen recognised that indeed a bracer is needed for experiencing the work.

It was a nice day after all and a very interesting exhibition worth going there. http://www.secession.at/

"Like a hunter with the rifle on the ready, like a wondering child I search for ways to express myself, - slinging memories and dreams high up in the air - let them land among the hope for tomorrow and fear of the unknown. In this material I find tracks. I'm a pathfinder with an unknown objective."

Ensemble Propelly:
A storytellers task is to weave together what has been, with what will become - to build bridges between what we try to escape from and what we seek towards. We collect bits and pieces, and thus new stories come to life. We're a travelling ensemble of storytellers. Each one of us have our own unique life story which we generously want to share with you; the story of our destiny, and the other stories that come to life during the journey. Dream or reality - past or future - truth is our guiding star.

Provinces wonders

In the rural parts of the country of P.P.Queen there are miracles. People who bring the culture and art from all over the world to the most hidden places. This year for example Lord Bishop and Living Colour will play at Vöcklabruck, Upper Austria. link

Every year in summer there´s a culture festival in the Salzkammergut region, with classical music, exhibitions, jazz, theater, literature, lectures and also very interesting this summer a Viennese Lecture about the egomaniac society. link

All year a cinema in Ebensee shows great films, there´s an International Independent Film Festival and concerts. link

So check out the provinces of the Queen´s land, where you are not only at the back of beyond.

Wind (and) Man

photos copyright by Petra Kodym

In a land far away P.P. the Queen was looking at the sky, a clown appeared and started dancing and jumping on the clouds. "Is it a dream or is it real?" she thought, rubbing her eyes. When she looked up again the clown was still there playing in the wind. Now P.P. knew what was going on, the windman did his job well this day. Not being the antiwindman any longer he said to himself: Do your duty! and started his new car...

The first unambiguous reference to a kite occurs in Chinese literature from about 200 BCE; the kite itself is almost certainly older. We know that kites spread throughout Asia via known trade routes: they were present in Japan and Korea by approximately 1000 CE, and commonplace in Malaysia, Indonesia, and Thailand by the 1500s. But where did the kite first appear? It was likely in the islands and peninsulas of the Pacific, where the needs of seafaring cultures could have driven the development of simple, utilitarian leaf kites for fishermen.
There are kite culures in Cambodia, China, Guatemala, India, Japan, Taiwan.
Kite maker Marten Bondestam has this to say about art kites: "Artistic kites are kites with some extra intellectual qualities. Beauty is not art. Art can be ugly, but must have an intellectual message." Not just a painting in the sky, an art kite can be a sculpture in the air, a flying billboard of celebration or protest, or an interactive illustration of man and his environment.
Early art kite makers, such as Tal Streeter, Jackie Matisse, and Curt Asker, both honored and transformed the legacy of traditional kite makers when they adopted kites as canvases for their expression.
Even underwater kites are made!

Space and Toloka

P.P.Queen proudly presents Natalie Kulbashna, a young Ukrainian artist of cinema, recently making her diploma at the National Academy of Art, Kiev.

With her art of cinema she takes us to a magic Ukraine. See a few samples from her film work Toloka, click to enlarge the pictures.
Natalie Kulbashna says:

"These are my cinemas of the art of work, under the script of the Ukrainian director of cinema M.G. Illenko "Toloka". The Same works I protected the bachelor's degree in academy, successfully. For now, here my representation about our country how I see it and love it.

I live and I like to live. And the gone through impressions I leave on canvases."

Surprisingly the Queen also played a part in a mysterious film. There was this house, no doors or windows, the only light a torch and a halo, a bunch of interesting but somehow confused people and in the middle of this haunted house there was a fish swimming in the air. First she thought this was a happening or a performance, but then she recognised that she somehow landed in a strange movie.

fhh key

Today P.P. found a mysterious message attached to a miraculous key. "This is the key of the door standing inside the hut" The key has hung on a nail in an old hut. The queen couldn´t find this mysterious door, the entrance to the writers fascinating mind. The almost poetical description of the doors "place of residence", the nonexistence of the door and the effort the poet made to mark the key and fix the paper with a string enchanted P.P.Queen.

The enchanted queen wants to share with you this wonderful words of Franz Graf, an Austrian artist. (Franz Graf, 2005, TEXT)

Outer Space Bistro

Nobody knows that recently creatures from outer space came to visit planet earth. They landed and immediately started singing bewildering songs about a creature, not being sure if it is dead or alive. The humans were delighted. An exciting moment for P.P.Queen and another good example of how reality goes far beyond imagination.

To forget about this confusing experience P.P. went to the Global Village Sounds Festival in Vöcklabruck, a small town in Upper Austria, on friday. Radio String Quartett Vienna featuring Klaus Paier (Akkordeon, Composition) giving P.P.Queen a relaxing as well as exiting mood, excellently played together. Highlight of the night was the concert of Dobrek Bistro, they made P.P. feel and hear Vienna with all its different moods and influences. A polish-russian-brazilian- austrian Band very worth experiencing! Polish accordionist Krzysztof Dobrek, Russian violinist Aliosha Biz, Brazilian percussionist Luis Ribeiro and Austrian bass player Sascha Lackner, outstanding musicians.
